We
are sensitive to and concerned with preserving the environment, and we
ensure that all local wood used for the production of our products is
certified by the Indonesian Forestry Commission. This timber comes from
well-managed forests that abide by the principles of sustainable
practices, including protection of water quality, biodiversity, wildlife
habitat, and species at risk. We are a member of Trees-4-Trees™,
a non-profit foundation established in Indonesia by responsible
furniture manufacturers and their customers worldwide. Trees-4-Trees™
empowers local communities through partnership reforestation initiatives
and related educational programs. By increasing the area of community
planted and owned forests, livelihood assets are created, the negative
effects of deforestation are reduced and the environment is renewed.
The oak, spruce, maple and other timbers which we import from Europe and use in the manufacture of some of our collections is FSC (Forrest Stewardship Council) certified.
Most
of our workers have been with us for years as they are treated fairly
and with respect. Benefits and working conditions are equal to or in
excess of local government standards. We are also a member of Sedex,
Supplier Ethical Data Exchange. This organization enables member
companies to efficiently manage the ethical and responsible practices of
their global supply chains. Sedex focuses on four pillars: Labor
Standards, Health & Safety, Environment and Business Integrity.
